I want to become fluent in Spanish; right now I'm at about level 5, so I'm rather advanced. However, I want to read some relatively easy-read books in Spanish, and I want to read a GOOD book so I'll actually read it. I'm 22 years old, so I don't want to read children's or teen books. Any suggestions?

try reading anything by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende. Also "Como agua para chocolate" by Laura Esquivel is really good.

If you want some short stories, try the Stories from Spain, Stories from Latin America, Stories from Puerto Rico, etc. series. They're side-by-side books, so one page is in English and the page next to it is in Spanish...so it's a quick reference if you don't want to keep looking in a dictionary.

Have fun!

I'd like to recommend a relatively contemporary novel, "El amor en los tiempos del colera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez who received his Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. I read its English translated version entitled, "Love in the Time of Cholera" and found it fantastic. However, there is another classic written 400 years ago, that is, "Don Quixote" by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, again I read its translated English and Thai versions. This classic Spanish novel was voted and ranked by some 100 writers from 54 countries as No. 1 in the list of the 100 best meaningful books of all time in 2002. Please visit the web site below.
Note: "Don Quixote" has been translated into Chinese (57th language) and Thai (58th language) so far.

I envy you for your proficientcy. I can bearly order at a resturant, I am going to take a chance and recommend some things I have read in translation. Anything by Gabrial Garcia Marcuz ( 100 years of solitude was one of the best books I have ever read) and the poetry of Neruda ( I read translations for myself, but would listen to it again and again in spanish simply for its lyracism.)

Reading the reserve instead of watching the movie is the best way to see what the author planned. Reading uses your creativeness, hones your reading skills, and can increase your vocabulary

one good example is..."EL LIBRO INFIERNO" by CARLO FRABETTI...even the writer is italian, the book is in spanish...it's a very good book, full of knowledge...try it and tell me your opinion about it...don't look at the title...even if it looks creepy, the book is very interesting...it's not a horror book!
