I regularily see people in various place answering mobile phones, yesteday I was in the queue in Sainburys, phone rings and woman lifts out flash looking phone ans answers " I'm in Sainsburys see you a bit later".
The other day a woman next to me on the train was using her expensive looking mobile phone to talk about Eastenders.
I see in the adverts that some of these things cost £25 a month, and more, with an 18 month contract. Thats £450 for a load of " I'm in Sainsburys" conversations. Then there is the cost of ringtones that all the kids must have.
I can understand someone having one of these phones if given free with a job but who is mug enough to pay for a thing that costs loads to carry out junk conversations and screams " mug me" to all the thieves on the street.
I have a cheap mobile phone, cost £20 including £5 airtime, which I kep in the boot of my car in case I break down. It gets recharged every 6 months.
Message is sell junk= make profit.

I am delighted that so many of you think paying £450 over 18 months to use a phone is necessary. Right now my daughter is earning loads of commission selling phones. I just avoid these shops.

When I was a child, we made mobile phones from cans and string. The modern technology is far more expensive, but the intelligence level of many of the conversations has hardly changed.
Joe Pasquale made a good gag about this. He pulled his cans and string out of a bag, and started having a conversation with someone. Part way through, he said "I'll have to put you on hold for a moment". He then pulled out a smaller can from inside the larger one, and put that to his ear. This doesn't sound at all comical written here, but it went down extremely well when televised.

ahh well I'm not sure what that little e thing is but i spend like 80 bucks a month on my phone and the phone was 3 hundred dollars(the tmobile dash!!!!{love it guys!!}) and i cant imagine life without it!! think of it this way. whats the point of a house phone. you can only use it in the house. a cordless has low range and it doesn't have the Internet and you only hear ring ring. how boring. so i think cell phones even to say where you are, are sooooo worth it!! oh whats the boot of the car? since when do cars wear shoes?

I have a mobile for a few reasons. When i moved into the flat we didnt have a landline. Bt took nearly 8 weeks to put in a landline. Also i used to have a motorcycle and i carried it in case i had an accident. To be honest theres nothing worse than being on a train or a bus and somebody taking really loud into a mobile phone.

well, i work out of town and i stay out of town for the time i work. during this time i work in a smoll town in the middle of nowhere and i dont know anyone there, so i use my phone to call people at home and during those times of boredom i and VERY glad to have my phone. also, i play games on the phone and music because im not fond of being idle or listening to silence.
when i am out with a friend and my disabled mom needs assistance i am able to answer her call and see what she needs, also picking up items for her from a store i might pass.
if i have plans to go do something with someone and they need to cancel at the last moment, they can tell me so i can not waste my expensive gas going there.
and the list goes on...
just because you dont need YOUR phones doesnt mean no one else does. by the way, phones arent the only things that attract theives. cars, women alone, being at an atm, and current life situations for the thief all are factors too. ive never heard of someone getting mugged just for their phone. usually money and purse/wallet are in there somewhere...

Well John Cauldwell used to own one of the phone shop companies and he is one of the richest men in the country, the prices people pay are a rip off.

Things have moved on - I personally can't imagine not having a mobile phone. At least I can tell my friends I am in Sainsburys, so they can stop looking for me!

Precisely. I use mine for emergencies and so does my Wife. However, I plead guilty to the charge of ringing her when I was in another town and she rang me asking to meet her because she had found something I needed and I couldn't get it where I was. Good use? Oh! forgot to mention this; calling my Wife, Daughter or Son-in Law costs me nothing on my mobile!

Everyone is not like you. For example I am a student and my mobile is my landline phone. You obiviously aren't interested in mobiles some people are. Get over it.
