Anytime I switch my pc on I get a popup from windows updates asking me to install some critical updates. I've done it several times and check my add and remove programs. It's installed but windows keeps nagging me to intall the same file again, infact I'm tired of it, can someone tell me why this is happening? I keep receiving this message about 2 minutes after I have install whatever updates I have been asked to install. Please help me I'm so mad about this updates.

At the risk of sounding arrogant, the answers given above are completely wrong. What is happening here, is one of your updates has failed to install properly and keeps trying.

The first thing you need to do is alter your Automatic Updates settings, in order to find out which update is failing. (Alternately, you could visit Windows Update site, and it will also inform you of any updates which have failed to install)

Start
Control Panel
Security Center
At the bottom you will see "Manage Security Settings For;" ; click on Automatic Updates
Change from "Automatic" to "Download Updates for me, but let me choose when to install them"

Now rather than mindlessly attempting to install the same failing update, you will have a little yellow shield down on the task bar, that proudly informs you;
"Updates are ready for your computer. Click here to install these updates..."

When you click on it an Automatic updates window will open with two choices;
Express or Custom

When you click Custom a list of all pending updates will display, take a moment to jot down the pack #'s, aka;
K8928090
KB929969
KB929399
etc. After the window pops up again, informing you you have updates ready to install, look for the # of the pack you just installed a moment ago (it will probably be the only update listed)

Now take this pack # (KB...whatever....), and do a Google search using some crafty search terms like "cant install KB...whatever, the number is..."

Chances are outstanding you are not the only one to have faced this problem. The top two or three results should be sites (preferably Microsoft) containing a "work-around" to solve your issue.

That is the correct way to resolve failed updates, and the end of your problem.

Hope that helps : )

I had the exact same problem! I suggest you do a virus scan. Mine didn't pick up anything even scanning but I took it into a computer repair shop (a well known one) and they couldn't do anything about it. It is a little bug coming from a download you haven recently made that gets itself into the Windows Update and doesn't let you do that same one, you will continually have to wait a few minutes before your computer shuts down because it keeps saying installing update. Am I right? Not to scare you but mine never worked out and I had to get a whole new HDD, luckily the repair shop cloned it so most stuff was recovered. If you do take it in somewhere ask them to clone your HDD so you don't lose anything.

Updates are arriving virtually all the time and it will keep you up-to-date when you agree to install. As you can carry on with whatever you are doing on line it is not too much of a problem. I only receive such info about one a week so not sure why you are (privileged) to receive them every 2 mins?

All you have to do is disable windows automatic updates

And everything will end !

When You enter the Control Panel, click on Security Center.

A windows will open, scroll down, at the buttom of that

Window you will find a button called Automatic Updates.

Click on it ! and then put a Check next to where is written

"Turn Off Automatic Updates"

Finally, click Apply and then Ok.
