either your cd rom lens is dirty
the cd is scratch so it cannot be recognized
could have be uninstalled from you computer somehow
a bad cd rom driver (helps run the cdrom)
Could be disconnected some how
CD ROM cannot read burn disks

All are possible ways for your cd not to be working

you have to make sure your CD drive can read burn discs

or CD-RW drive to find out what kind of drive do the following

right click on my computer then click on properties

next click on the hardware tab and then select device manager

then click on the CD-ROM drives and it will list what you have for a CD ROM Drive.

of course computers from roughly 2000 and on are CD-RW compatible.

Of course make sure your lens is clean and the CD's are not scratch either.
