Only cold in the winter. Its the only place where after traveling only a short distance you are in the middle of nowhere, or at least close to it.
The Northern Lights in Winter; and the long hours of daylight in the summer. Here is an example; we are still in March yet it was broad daylight at 8:30 pm here where I live North of Anchorage.
We regularly have moose walk through our yard nibbling on out trees and bushes. Great place to get out and enjoy all that mother nature has to offer.
Jobs are plentiful, pay scale is OK not like it used to be but certainly enough. Contrary to popular opinion, we are as modern as any metropolitan city.
See for yourself.

I live in Wasilla, Alaska. Biggest city I have ever lived in.(80,000 in Wasilla Valley) I feel Alaska is cold year round, last summer it did get up to 70 degrees, but rained just about every day.
There is alot of crime, drugs, and the mess that comes with larger cities. Anchorage has about 270,000 people.
There are some beautiful Mountains, However most of the trees are leaf trees and the "pine" trees are very small.
As far as wildlife, all I have seen is Moose.
However, salmon fishing is very good here. The beaches are non-usable , as they are like "quick sand".
Hope this helped, I know it wasnt very cheery.
