I drank coffee through all five of my pregnancies, and had five wonderful kids (one did die in infancy, from SIDS) ... they're all grown now and are all 'genius level' so I don't think that drinking even 'a pot a day' would hurt your baby. BUT, you do need to drink lots of 'good for you' fluids, too ... you'll need 'milk' (for the calcium, for strong bones in both you and your baby), and you should also drink 'fruit juices' and you may drink HERBAL TEAS, too. DO NOT DRINK ANY ALCOHOL while you are pregnant, if possible, but I did have one doctor who told me to drink 'one glass of red wine' every night after I had gone into 'premature' labor, to help me 'relax' because the medication I was on made me 'very uptight' ... so you 'may be allowed' one glass of wine a night in the last couple of months, but only if you get the doctor's permission. And, if you can't drink anything else, you can ALWAYS DRINK WATER ... it's 'good for you' and it's 'good for the baby' and it's really 'inexpensive' too ...

You can drink coffee or any caffeinated beverage just make sure it's only 2 to 3 servings a day. Also you want to stay away from anything that says herbal ( aka- teas made with herbs or other drinks like the sobe ones) some herbs aren't good for you while you are pregnant and you should stay away from them. Other than that you can drink whatever. Of course you should always stay away from alcohol, but I'm sure you already knew that one hehe.

There is no actual medical evidence that caffeine can damage your growing baby. You can drink coffee and coke etc, but it is advised that you limit it. I can't remember exactly what they recommend, maybe check that with your midwife. I actually stopped drinking coffee all together when I was pregnant, but ended up having withdrawal symptoms. I would get awful headaches which wouldn't shift unless I slept. I told my midwife about this and she asked straight away if I had stopped drinking coffee, and then told me to start again.
If you really wanted to stop or cut down maybe try either decaf or half caf.

Try switching to de-caf. Do not drink alcohol, But tea and coffee isn't normally an issue when pregnant!
Drink plenty of fruit juices, especially Cranberry juice, it is good to rid toxins from the kidneys, and plenty of water too.
Congratluations on yr pregnancy, most of all enjoy it, my daughter is 5 now and it only seems like yesterday that the test went blue!!

caffeine can cause miscarriage in asscssive doses. In prima pregnancy magazine it says 3 cups/ 4 mugs of instant coffee a day,or 3 brewed cups of coffee or 6 cups of tea or 8 cans of cola. 300mg i think but no more. I love diet coke but ive gone onto the caffiene free stuff. This is due to me havuing 2 m/c. i seen it in the april magazine which has just come out. good luck in your pregnany. Maybe you could have the caffiene free stuff.

p.s. you want to try to take care of yourself as much as possible because during your first trimester (which is from the time you get pregnant until the end of your third month), there's a high risk of miscarriages.
Best wishes and good luck
