Pubic hair is there so you have something to wipe your lips on.

I don't think God put the hair there so we could be modest, that is in other words, it is very unlikely that it has always been genetically prevalent by reason that pubic hair should be intended as a substitute for clothing.

Let's imagine for a minute that we were a whole lot hairier at one time in history and the hair helped repel insects and kept us a little warmer.... in thos circumstances, before the wheel, you might choose a mate because your offspring had a better chance of survival if both parents where hairy.

Anyhow, we will never really know I suppose. Fact is, for the moment, most adults grow pubic hair and some more than others. Give it another five thousand years and a full Brazilian wax job may not be necessary.

In terms of copious hair areas, for most of us head and pubic hair is in fact all we have left of the thick all over body hair our ancestors had. In other areas it has become much less dense or absent, more so in females.

It remains as part of our secondary sexual characteristics, helping to attract the opposite sex and act as a signal to let them know we have reached sexual maturity and are fair game. Nature of course didn't design us to wear clothes and doesn't respond to the fact that we do. Since it has no survival disadvantages there is no genetic advantage in its disappearance.

Recently, I heard a few doctors speculate on the subject of why we have pubic hair. Their ending opinion was that we retained it through evolution as a prevention of chaffing.

Sounded plausible to me.....

When we evolved they probably weren't covered all the time because Adam, Eve and the apes probably didnt have clothes at all and so needed something doiwn there to keep it warm. We just haven't evolved enough to get rid of it.
