NO NO NO! A baby does not have to have a bowel movement every day. I have a 3 month old son and a 2 year old. My 2 year old has more bowel movements than my newborn and i was told by their pediatrician that that is normal.
She said a baby should not go no more than 7 days without a bowel movement. IF they do then you need to call their doc and tell them that way they can tell you what to give them. Usually they will say Kayro syrup. It helps constipation. If it doesnt help she will get you a prescription.

I have a three week old baby and she does not have a bowel movement everyday. She has a bowel movement every three days. I am nursing her and try to eat and drink things to make her have a more regular bowel movement, however no luck. I have spoken to a few doctors and looked on a few web sites. Apparently if a child has at least three bowel movements a week this is normal. As much as we hate it, this seems to be normal. My two older children we like this as babies and as they grew older they became more regular. I think they we about 4 months. Good luck!

It's different for breastfed & formula fed babies. I feed formula & I was told she can go up to 5 days without a bowel movement. We also give her about an ounce of juice whenever she gets the hiccups throughout the day, so I think that helps her fiber intake to keep them soft and easy to pass. Honestly, I can't remember the timeline for breastfed kiddos though.

It really depends on the baby, as with people, some go more than others. I was really concerned when my young baby had not been for 4-5 days, but the midwives told me this was ok and not to worry unless the baby stops feeding or the lower abdomen becomes hard and swollen. if you are worried call your health visitor or take the baby to see the doctor.
it also depends on the age of the baby, try giving cool boiled water or very diluted pure orange juice.

the folk who say it is common are overlooking a) the intestinal autointoxication situation and b) the actuality that accumulations of excrement would reason intestinal obstructions equivalent to hernias. If the suppositories do no longer artwork, supply her a mini-enema (micralax and Fleet Pedialax have toddler-friendly disposable enemas). If she nonetheless won't have the capacity to get her doodoo out after that, rush her to medical institution!
