The way I knew was I thought about life without him, and saw a bleak and empty future ahead of me. I didn't want a future without him in it, sharing it with me. So, we married, and it was the best thing I've ever done.

The Bible tells you what true love is, but then most have no use for the Bible, cause is makes them face that we have rules we must follow or pay the price for not doing so.
Love is kind, gentle, not self serving. It is patient, cares about the other persons best interests. It isnt prideful or boasting.
With so many, they think true love means the other person does, says, just as the mate wants. If the other person tells you that you are wrong or they wont do just what you want, they dont love you. HOGWASH.
At times, the most loving thing you can do is tell someone they are being stupid or silly or unrealistic. If a person loves you, they care about your well being, to include when you dont want to hear how silly you are being.
Love doesnt mean the other must indulge your whims and fantasy or nonsense continually. True love means that you want to do what is right and want to be your best for your mate as well as yourself. They deserve no less from you.
True love means that because you care for the other person, you want to act and do as you should, for it is good for them and you.

for me true love is when u can be so comfortable around the person, u can talk, laugh, cry together and it was never physical. unbelievable huh, since we were together for 5 years but it just wasn't an issue. he got into trouble with the law and we broke up, i can tell u that my heart felt like bursting and i heard he attempted suicide. i still get teary when i pass places we've been to and some nites i still cry thinking abt him. its been 7 years and although i've since moved on, married and had kids but i don't love my hub like i love that guy. dats true love coz u know inside u that nothing will ever be the same again without him and there'll always be a void in your heart after he's gone...

You will definately know when you feel love for the other person because mature people feel and know it inside your whole self the true beautiful feeling of love.

appearently I have no idea....getting a divorce. I thought it was true love, but all it was was her loving what I did for her and how I treated her....
