I've recently discovered Elliott Smith and I'm blown away by his music, incredible! I bought Figure 8 and XO, but I want more! What would you Elliott Smith fans reccommend as the next CD I should buy?

Either/or is the best. The earlier albums are a build up to this. THis one is one of those albums that is an underground classic and really put Elliott center stage as a singer/songwriter. From there he did the tracks for 'Good Will Hunting' and was nominated for academy award (to Elliott's chagrin). After that his stuff got a little more 'polished' as someone else said (polished doesn't mean better). Figure 8 & XO are good and so is From a basement on a Hill. Elliott was working on Basement when he committed suicide and so a few friends finished & released it. Once you really listen to the other albums, you can tell that someone else had a hand in finishing this one. Not that it isn't good. There are some good tracks. Someone listed "New Moon" as his newest album. I checked it out. it comes out in May and is a 2cd collection of unreleased tracks put out by Elliott's family & Kill Rock Stars (indie label Elliott was on). Should be interesting (i hope). But seriously, check out Either/or. Intimate, personal, vulnerable yet with a hint of &%$* everyone. Its such a fantastic album.

From A Basement On A Hill.

But, I recommend you buy all of his albums if possible, his music is so incredible and magical. I love him!

The two you have are my favorites by him. The earlier stuff (S/T, Either/Or, Roman Candle EP) isn't as polished sounding as the two albums you have. "From a basement" is a good album also; he was in the middle of making it when he passed.

My favorite is "From a Basement on a Hill." It's the first one I heard and I still love it.

"Either/Or" is my favorite. He stayed pretty consistent though. They are all pretty safe bets. I wasn't a big fan of basement on a hill.... but that's just me.

New Moon is his latest CD.
If you go to wikipedia, and type in 'elliot smith', there's loads of information there.
