The only legal ground worth pursuing relates to the fact that she "published" pictures of you without your consent. You may not be able to establish grounds for actual damages but you can seek a punitive damage ruling.

We have to assume she has deep enough pockets to make the action worthwhile.

Defamation is a false statement that injures someones reputation and exposes him to public contempt, hatred, ridicule, or condemnation. If the false statement is published in print or through broadcast media, such as radio or TV, it is called libel. If it is only spoken, it is called slander.

Were any false statements made? Were the pictures real, e.g. real photos of you, untouched up?

Granted it has caused embarrassment, but was anything in the pictures or e-mails false? That's the key word - false.

It is a shame what happened to you. I would not say you have defamtion of character however publishing pix of you without your consent and placing on the internet is wrong. I would file at least a complaint with the local police department to at least have a paper trial. I am not 100% however if I am not mistaken the internet is a federal offense. I would at least file a harassment complaint with the locals first and see how that goes. To me that roomate of yours is a compelte bi*ch.

From what I have been told..in order for you to have a legal leg to stand on with defamation of character...it has to cause you some sort of "harm." Were you fired or denied a job because of what had been said or in this case shown to them? You have to have some sort of damages in order for you to have a legal claim.

Not defamation, no false speech was stated. It is what we know as theft. What did you do to get your laptop back?
