Sounds like you've been installing a lot of things, and Windows has gotten all clogged up with various program bits. Sometimes they stick around even after you uninstall, and sometimes they install themselves without your knowing. You could either: do a virus check, a malware check (I recommend AdAware), uninstall any programs you don't need, then start going through the windows startup scripts and services to manually clean up the stuff that is running. OR, you could reinstall Windows from scratch. I usually need to do that every two years.

Another 256mb of ram would help, but from your description (one hour???) it wouldn't help enough.

Not enough RAM. This motherboard features onboard video. It shares RAM memory with the CPU. This is your system bottle neck. Buy a 1 Gb RAM module and you will be amazed at the increase in speed! Better yet buy the RAM and a PCIe video card and you'll fly.

freeware called AdAwareSE http://www.lavasoft.com

then we need to clean everything up
START
my computer
local disk C:
properties
second tab is TOOLS
error checking - CHECK NOW -
make sure you check both boxes - START
(now - this program like to be the boss - so you may have to reboot your computer to get this one to engage)

and while we are here - disk defrag
analyze to see if it needs it -
then do it if recommended

and do you have Yahoo! IE7 - if you do - to the right of the
red Y! about a third of the way in is a 'yellow target'
click it - that is a free Norton Spyware Scan
and

that should take you the better part of two hours to do -

but will be well worth it

best of luck

there's an incredible peice of utility available, CCleaner. i think of somebody else has published the link. This cleans out all your un-needed junk documents, which reason your pc to run sluggish. or you should purchase some form of registry cleanser utility (there's an incredible one made via pc kit) which might style maximum of it out. First in spite of the undeniable fact that, attempt an consumer-friendly Disk Defragment and/or a Disc Cleanup. If all fails, you should continually use device fix to set your device to a former date (earlier your pc began working slowly). Or do an entire device reinstall, if all else fails.

Seems like its a RAM issue or maybe the HD drivers are not updated. windowsupdate.microsoft.com and update all drivers. Reinstalling the OS is also a good idea.
