I was born there but from a different country. I consider Indonesia my home instead of Manila Philippines.

I can say so much about indonesia but I know a lot about Java only. There is so much to tell. LIke what do you want to know about the people?

THe population is mostly Muslim (90%) and is the only country with the largest number of muslims. The majority are moderate so you don't have to worry about extremists getting popularity when a lot of the moderates condone terrorism.

THe malls are very nice. Plaza Senayan and Pondok Indah mall 2 are some of the best malls to hang out in.

In terms of pollution, it's really bad. There is awful urban planning and people build things if they have $$$$$$. As long as people have money, the government can easily put aside the millions of poor making the poverty situation really bad.

In terms of living... it's cheap as hell. It's nice too however you do get guilty by looking at the poor on the streets. It's not as bad as Manila but I have lowered my lifestyle so that I won't feel as guilty.

THe Javanese believe in a big warm smile. They smile under all circumstances even if it is not to their liking. THey believe in the yin yan theory. Well not exactly yin and yan but they keep their enemies alive so that they don't turn on their friends.

Public safety: before 1998, you could go anywhere. After the riots, you need to be with friends or you'll be in trouble. I miss jakarta being safe but with the millions of poor, you have to be aware at all times.

The political side of things is bad but not as bad as the philippines.

Indonesia has a rich natural resource... it's just a shame that foreign countries are screwing poor ol Indonesia by stealing it's oil and trees....

email me if you want pictures of jakarta. I have plenty of em.

Indonesia is a country that has thousands of island and one of the world famous Bali island is in Indonesia.
Capital: Jakarta is one of the most crowded city, one of the most polluted city with large gap between the rich and the poor. It is the central of all governmental offices, foreign embassy, and foreign company headquarters.
Indonesia has rich natural resources (oil, gas, coal, trees, beaches)...but unfortunately mismanaged by its people. Everyone seems to care about its own wealth.
Java island has the highest population among other 4 big islands (Sumatra, Kalimantan, Irian and Sulawesi).
Most youngster speaks Bahasa Indonesia as it is the formal language that is thought in school. However, dialects are still guarded altho most has been influenced by Bahasa Indonesia. some remote villagers cant even speak bahasa indonesia.
Being a tropical country, Indonesia actually enjoys pretty friendly weather. Apprx of 6 months rainy season and the other 6 months of dry season. With the effect of global warming or whatever mother nature has in mind, the season is shifting abit tho....These last few years, in month that suppose to be rainy season already.....theres no sign of rains and vice versa.
As many of asian country, morals, family culture, some informal rules plays important rules.
sigh....alot to tell...you must narrow down your question
I think i stop here
hope the above gives you some ideas of what is Indonesia...

Indonesia, a vast polyglot nation, has struggled to overcome the Asian financial crisis, and still grapples with persistent poverty and unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, endemic corruption, a fragile banking sector, a poor investment climate, and unequal resource distribution among regions. The country continues the slow work of rebuilding from the devastating December 2004 tsunami and from an earthquake in central Java in May 2006 that caused over $3 billion in damage and losses. Declining oil production and lack of new exploration investment turned Indonesia into a net oil importer in 2004. The cost of subsidizing domestic fuel placed increasing strain on the budget in 2005, and combined with indecisive monetary policy, contributed to a run on the currency in August, prompting the government to enact a 126% average fuel price hike in October. The resulting inflation and interest rate hikes dampened growth through mid-2006, while large increases in rice prices pushed millions more people under the national poverty line. Economic reformers introduced three policy packages in 2006 to improve the investment climate, infrastructure, and the financial sector, but translating them into reality has not been easy. Keys to future growth remain internal reform, building up the confidence of international and domestic investors, and strong global economic growth. Significant progress has been made in rebuilding Aceh after the devastating December 2004 tsunami, and the province now shows more economic activity than before the disaster. Unfortunately, Indonesia suffered new disasters in 2006 and early 2007 including: a major earthquake near Yogyakarta, an industrial accident in Sidoarjo, East Java that created a "mud volcano," a tsunami in South Java, and major flooding in Jakarta, all of which caused additional damages in the billions of dollars. Donors are assisting Indonesia with its disaster mitigation and early warning efforts.
