I used to wonder about this often. My best friend is very beautiful statuesque blond, when we go out dancing and drinking, height challenged men always ask her to dance. She tries to be nice about the whole thing but when she asked me the same question you just asked I leaned in and told her "the heart wants what it wants". We can't question
the heart just go along with it.

Because people like challenges. If you don't have the thrill of a chase then it's boring. Also it boosts their ego to be able to steal someone's man/woman from their significant other.
