I recently got promoted to night supervisor at my job, now it seems that my co-workers that i thought i was cool with hate me. Everytime i delegate tasks to my co-workers i get back talk, rolling of the eyes, just plain disrepect. On more than one occasion i had to go to upper mgmt. on some of the employees, and someone even had the nerve to put in the suggestion box for me to stop being bossy. I know for a fact other mgmt are much harder on them, i consider myself to be very easygoing. It looks like I can't handle my staff. It's already tough to be the only ethnic woman in my position working there.I just don't know what to do,I used to enjoy my job now i dread going there. What should i do?

I'm the nightshift for man too, I never tell anyone to do anything. I always ask them.
When I got the job I told everyone that I was put in charge of, "You all know me and know I can and have done every job here. I am not here to pick on any of you and dole out the crappy job to anyone in particular, my job is to be the go between from management and you guys. They tell me what they want done and it is our job to get it done. You guys decided to put in your application here so if you don't like doing your job because I am your foreman I guess you can quit, cuz I'm not going to. If a job does not get done that I have asked you to complete, I won't be the one to explain the why of it, I'll just say well I told Fred to do that so Fred can explain why he didn't want to do it. on the other hand if there is a good reason why something didn't get done then I will stand up for you. I don't yell or demand things, and I take all the flak from management so the guys don't have too.

Good luck. It's not hard to do, Just be fair.

You're in a difficult but not unfamiliar situation. Often times when a person is promoted, the people they were peers and pals with will turn against them...usually this is short-lived resentment tho. Try to hang in there and not get angry or offended. Once they see that you're remaining cool, and fair to everyone, you will win their respect

That's normal. It happens to everyone who moves up the ladder. The ******* who don't like it are really not your friends so dump them. If you want to get ahead in life then don't let their attitude get in the way of your progress. Besides, pretty soon you'll make new friends who are of the same status
