In the 1970s, there was a rush of shows such as "All in the Family," its spin-off "The Jeffersons," "Fat Albert," and "Good Times" that all dealt with race and politics (and "Maude", another "All in the Family" spin-off that dealt with women's lib). You can find info on all those shows on www.imdb.com and www.wikipedia.org.

As for taboos today, the only thing that seems to be left (in regards to race and politics) is showing Muslims in an unfavorable light (except on "24" but I understand they've watered that down this season). Interracial and homosexual romance are common, women's liberation is accepted, blacks are regularly seen as middle or upper class.

First of all - this is a major question. There were several phases of advertising in the '70s that were reflective of war, race relations, the age gap, etc. If you can identify who the guardians are today and work backward you might get done a whole lot faster.
You have your work cut out for you!

PS - I agree with Robot's answer -- but also point out that the '70 had '50s themed shows like Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, etc. that seemed to focus and hold another period of time as an example of what life was like "in the good old days." I can tell you we didn't know which was was up then between civil rights and unrest, the war, the gender gap and rampant drug abuse. Gee - doesn't this sound familiar???
