Good luck, Mastiff's are a bullheaded and territorial breed. Mine barks at the wind, or no wind doesn't matter...I go out with him a lot and play with him and Sadie and try to wear him out then he's an inside dog so inside he doesn't bark, but if I go out of town, he's in the garage for the evening, I'm thinking of a wood fence, the less he sees the less territorial he is. He's really just saying "look at me, I'm the biggest baddest guy on the block" You better nip this in the bud before he's bigger than you and worse yet knows it.
Spraying doesn't help the only thing that stops him is if I'm out there taking his mind off it with a game of frisbee or chase the ball or wrestle with the German Shepard. I tell him Cat's have rights too but I don't think he believes me.

Trust Jes :)
if it doesn't work, then take note of his habits, when does he bark and when he doesn't.
Some dogs bark at people passing because they don't like strangers, bring some friends over which he never seen before and see what happens, maybe a few more times and he will get used to it and stop barking...
something like that..

Is he a puppy?? If he is there isn't much chance to stop the barking. Think of him/her as a baby. They need lots and lots of attention and love. If you could handle it let it sleep at your feet until it gets independent enough to sleep alone. If it continues during the day the only thing you could do is train it or pay for dog training, which with a big dog like that you should have it trained anyway.

There are two ways. The first is to throw water over him each time he barks, not such an easy option if it is freezing cold outside!! The second and better option is a bark collar. You can get various types, one that give the dog a shock when it barks and others that spray a yuckky smell when the dog barks.

everytime your dog barks get down right infront of him on your knees and point and say "no". If you have a cage put him in the cage even if he is still barking continue to point and say "no".
If you don't have a cage you can try a room or even just a bathroom. It won't happen right away, but eventually your dog will learn that when he barks he is yelled at and put in the cage/room and he will know that it is wrong.

I had a chow that wouldn't quit barking, My vet suggested using a spray bottle and squirting him with water every time he barked when it was inappropriate. It worked. now he only barks if some one comes into the yard, or we are playing.

rewarding him for not barking helps....but alot depends on when he barks....does he bark just when people come over, when he is alone etc etc....reward him when he doesnt bark and ignore him when he does, just like a child chances are he just wants to get your attention, i know all you wanna do is yell at him to shut-up but that wont help...good luck with your dog, and stock up on treats
