Try non-animal tested fabric softner. It worked with my Aardvark!

next time you put it in the tumble drier include a sheet of "Bounce" or similar.
You must dry them (preferably in a tumbe drier- the natural way) after washing/allowing them to get wet as the water can get in between their plates and hey presto, a hard aardvark!

Give it termites instead of ants, contrary to belief, ants can cause irritation. Many people don't know that it sports very tough skin.
