if i have a cell with n=4 how would i draw the cell in metaphase and anaphase ? what if the cell was n=2 ? i do have a book that shows pictures of the different phases

If the cell 4n that means you have 4 chromatid pairs.
You would line up all 4 pairs of chromatids along the center of the cell. From each pair you will draw a line from the top chromatid to the middle of the top of the cell. Then you would do the same for the bottom chromatids. The final picture would look like the earth with the lines of longitude running from each pole to the equator. 2n you would have 2 pairs of chromatids instead of 4.

I think that "n" just refers to the number of chromosomes. So to draw n=4 cell in metaphase, you would just draw 4 chromosomes aligned on the metaphase plate. To draw anaphase, you would show the individual chromatids (1 chromosome=2 sister chromatids) being pulled towards the opposite sides of the cell. You would draw the same thing for n=2, except with two chromosomes only.
