I'm no doctor, but I recently had a colonoscopy. I've heard that you used to be in sort of a twilight sleep during this procedure, and woke up and were back to normal relatively quick afterwards. It seems though, after my experience, and talking with my grandmother about hers, that they may use more anesthesia nowadays. I went in for my procedure at 1:30 and didn't end up waking up until around 3:30. Waking up was slow, took a while for my limbs to start moving again. I felt no pain at all during, or after, the procedure. They wheeled me out to the car (you have to have someone drive you there and take you home, due to the anesthesia). When I got home, I was wide awake, back to normal, but you then get a second wave, I guess you could say, from the anesthesia and I ended up sleeping a nice solid 2-3 hours sleep. Being able to eat again is a great thing as well. To this day I can't eat or think about Jello. By the time I'd eaten again, it had been 41 hours.

You'll also notice the first couple times afterwards, especially if you have a polyp (or polyps) removed that your stool may be somewhat bloody. But that is normal. Even then, you don't feel any pain. For me though, my BMs felt much more exaggerated, in that it felt like I could feel the whole lining of my large intestine for about a month afterwards.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

The air that they shoot into the intestines works its way to your rear end. You recover from the laxative drink that was used to purge fecal material from your intestines the afternoon and evening before. You will finally be able to and will eat. It's not that bad.

You may feel drowsy so don't drive or operate machinery, otherwise you should be fine You won't feel sore if that is what you are wondering. I have had several because bowel cancer is prevalent in my family. I have never had any problems afterwards. Good Luck.,
