Shyness is just an absense of Self-Esteem. We tend to come up with labels such as being ugly, fat, not smart enough, bad dresser, etc.etc.etc..... to justify our shyness. When you peer deep down into this, it always boils down to just one thing. A lack of self esteem. Nothing else.
Most people have forgotten to apply a positive approach to their self-imposed negatives. When you can love yourself despite being ugly, fat, etc., you acquire self-esteem. When you are able to laugh at yourself comfortably, you acquire Self-esteem. When all these useless barriers disappear, so does your shyness.
Over the years, whenever I am feeling shy, I have learned to inject myself with an immediate dose of self-esteem. Just a simple reminder to appreciate my good qualities and bingo! Shyness disappears and suddenly you are the life of the party, so to speak. It really is that simple, and It really works.

I am overweight, too. I used to be thin and I KNOW that being overweight will make you incredibly shy. Losing weight is hard but it is not as hard as being overweight. I have commited now to eating better and getting more exercise by walking 3 miles a day. Do what works for you.

My imperfections, which I have many of. When someone looks at my physical imperfections it bothers me a bit, but I have acknowledge that many years ago. The key issue for me is my progress in life. I cannot stand someone looking down on me, so if I meet someone that claims to be the cream of the crop, I clam up, in fear that my imperfections will show.

When I try to enter a conversation and people pretend they didn't hear me.
Or I don't know anybody in the group before hand.
