People consider bisexuality greedy. I can't tell you how many times I've been called that. Why don't people understand that you're born bisexual, just like you're born gay? It's not a choice, per se.

People in this country see things in black and white, no shades of gray. If you are straight, you must be physically incapable of responding to the same sex under any circumstances however extreme, a many serving a life sentence in prison for example. If you are gay then you must be equally incapable of responding to the opposite sex. The Kinsey scale rates those 0 and 7. 1-6 are degrees of bisexuality. Since many people don't want bisexuality to exist, they invent totally nonsensical pseudo-facts to justify condemning it. No less an authority than Masters and Johnson originally included in the definition of bisexual a total lack of desire for a lasting relationship. As a lifelong bisexual I can attest to that being a baldfaced lie. People have been telling me for over 40 years I have to make up my mind, but no has ever been able to give me a logical reason so to do. Ultimately I did, I made up my mind I was bi.

Some heterosexuals consider it a perversion just like homosexuality and some homosexuals see it as "an unwillingness to be gay" and therefore an insult to homosexuality and, indirectly, themsevles and their "willingness tocome out completely". Basically they think of it as a weakness - a desire to stay "kind of straight" instead of "all gay".

People don't realize that it's a legitimate, recognized sexual orientation. It's not indecision, perversion or "sexual greediness". It's the capacity for being attracted emotionally and physically to both sexes.

Sometimes this has to be explained to people before they understand. I was once in a GLBT Studies college course and one of the students, an older woman, admitted that she's somewhat bigoted against bisexuals. She, like many others, thought it was an unwillingness to "be completely gay".

In a paper read aloud to the class, I explained bisexuality and what it means. She said I helped her understand. I was pretty proud of myself!

In part for the same reason that homosexuality isn't. People are threatened by the thought that the friendships they think of as platonic might have undercurrents of sexuality. In this and other ways we are seen as threatening to homosexuals as well. A monosexual can have people ruled out as partners because of their gender and thus form friendships that are seen as non-threatening by the individuals significant other.

We are also seen by some as a threat to the notion that sexuality is inherited and not a choice.

Of course for some it's enough that we're different.

because its hard to understand. both gays and straights feel no attraction to one gender and they have to come to terms with the fact that the gender they find unappealing is liked by the other.

now with bisexuality both genders are liked- usually not a 50/50 split. so there are two things here both gay and straight people do not experience and can't grasp
1- likeing more than one gender
2-the fact that someone likes the gender you don't.

bisexuals are also scapegoats and feared.
some fear the stds that can be spread when you have one less factor to discriminate with when it comes to sexual partners.
others don't like a mixing of the two communities.
some dislike the fact they have bisexual tendencies so they discrimnate.

there is a lot of biphobia and many myths that a decent percent of people believe

I think that people do not accept it because it is considered greedy. People think that bisexuals are trying to have their two portions and eat it. People tend to think that individuals will always have a preference for one gender all the other, but not both. I think that what ever a person is, whether they are straight, gay or bi it is their business and nobody elses, to judge.
Peace be with you x

I think to a point is is accepted. I think most of the hatred and unacceptance comes from when a group gets together. a group of men can "hate the ***" yet watch pornos with girl on girl action and say its hot! They see bisexuality of other men as a weakness of sorts, and men do not like to show their weaknesses to others.

society sees things at face value, either you're this or that... and no such thing as "in between". the idea of being able to like either gender gets the society into confusion and they can't label you gay or straight.. and the morality issue sets in, coz being bisexual means like you like BOTH male and female... and they just don't see any moral values in it (again, it's either this or that, no in-betweens)

Because society sees it as a threat. The heterosexuals see it as a threat to the traditional bond between a man and a woman (in marriage). The homosexuals see it as a threat to their power base because a vocal minority of them want the world to be divided into straight and gay and nothing in between.
