When I use my player on train I would like to minmise the sound that other people hear so that I can turn the volume up without disturbing other people. Does anyone know which models work best in this respect?

If you are looking for cheap headphones, you can't do much better than the Koss "Spark Plug" at the price. If you want top end, then go for the Bose Triport IE at £69 as the sound quality is fantastic. The only downside is that with the quality, you also get a slightly quieter overall volume output. I bought my Wife a pair and she is very happy with them. The other alternative is a pair of Etemotic Isolators at ten pounds more than the Bose.
Obviously the Koss Sparkplugs are not going to be "up there" with the Bose and Etemotic units, but they are at least as good quality as the original iPod units!

I really like the Sony MDR-EX51LP earbuds, they go in your ear, sealing them from outside sounds; you can almost use them as earplugs. Not to mention they sound great. They are my favorite headphones probably.

I use the Sony ones recommended by Jeremy J. Good price and very good bassy performance. You can get them from amazon or hmv
