Hi I bought a carbon fiber muffler off a friend of mine and went to have it put on. The exhaust specialist said he was afraid that if he used the normal C-Clamp and tightened it the carbon fiber qould crack and ruin the muffler so he was dumbfounded on installing the muffler. Can anyone who has done a carbon fiber muffler mounting job tell me the best way to mount it wothout rattling or breaking the muffler? Thanks

At the points you have to connect the c-clamps to the carbon fiber, wrap the muffler with a heat wrap to use as a buffer between the fiber and the metal. You want it tight enough to not slop around so as to crack it in motion, but you dont want it so tight as to crack it merely by tightening. Use your best judgement and in this case I would say looser is better than tighter. All in all, you will most likely need a new muffler in a few years because carbon fiber is not a very good muffler material because of the heat changes and the expanding and contracting it wear out quickly.

Why not use some kind of muffler patch as a 'glue' to hold the muffler on as well as drill to small holes and use metal screws to attach muffler to pipe so that the muffler cannot slide off the pipe?
