I just loved 300!! I used to say GLADIATOR was my favorite film but now I love 300 more! What an awesome movie! I was fascinated every minute! The script, the costumes and sets, the music, everything was just PERFECT!!!
I was most impressed by the action scenes, they were choreographed very nicely and looked pretty realistic. (OK, OK, the arterial spurt was wrong, there wasn't enough gushing blood and no sword, no matter how sharp, stays sharp long enough for you to hack that many people to death but let's overlook little details like that, OK?)
I own swords and I know it's not easy to swing those babies for long, you really have to be in good shape and these guys really looked it! Like real warriors not the weekend warrior type. I mean, you could believe that they'd been training as warriors since they were kids. I know people say it's all digitally enhanced but I don't care. It looked pretty real when it needed to look real.
OK, there was some gratuitous nudity (young "oracle" in flimsy gown, the Queen of Sparta flashing flesh, the king and queen in the bedchamber) to keep the young, testosterone laden men interested until the carnage but I guess that's only fair as we women were treated to the sight of all these buff guys in skimpy war outfits.
The bad guys were suitably bad, LOL! It cracks me up to see the people posting here at YA that are saying it's an anti-Iranian film or whatever. It's fiction for Pete's sake and it's a good story!! It was told from the viewpoint of a survivor, someone who came back to Sparta and told the story. Of course there will be embellishments!
Ah, but it wasn't just a good story, it was just a spectacular feast for the eyes in many respects and was very inspiring. It was a story about duty and loyalty, courage and honor. Who doesn't like that?
No question, 300 is the best movie of 2007 so far. I've seen several: WILD HOGS, 23, GHOST RIDER, CATCH & RELEASE, MUSIC & LYRICS, DEAD SILENCE.... um, some other horror flick whose name I can't even remember now... in fact, several movies that I can't name now because they were so mundane but 300 is awesome! I'll buy it on DVD as soon as it comes out.

That is a weird way to describe the movie and I have never heard it described this way. The movie is only a film of entertainment based on a Frank Miller graphic novel and that was based on a real battle. Even when the USA has not been at war there has been movies about huge battle that everyone will see just because if tha action, special effect, and fighting.
A propaganda film would be something that would show the people of Iran (which is not where we are right now) hating us with big signs or something. Look at a propaganda cartoon or film from the 1940s or 1930s in some library and that will show you what real propaganda is about. Or if you can't get a hold of that wait till the next presidential election campaigns start, every commercial you will see is propaganda.
The only effect I hace seen 300 have on people is the tendency to want to get a point across by yelling out "THIS IS SPARTA".

Apaches helicopters, F-18s and A-10s doing strafing runs on the Persians was a big give away. Actually 300 is based on a comic novel written around 1995, based on a movie in the '60s based on a written story was back when.
During the 40's, 50s and '60s there were a lot of movies that had American soldier just chewing up the enemy left and right. Since the last big movie like that was Top Gun (Lord of the Rings was mostly a fantasy movie), many people probably forgot what war movies use to look like.

The movie was based on a comic book written by Frank Miller. Frank Miller based his comic book on the actual legend of the 300 Spartans that is written in Greek History, if people believe that this is brainwashing (which I have not heard from any credible reviewer or newsman) then they are ignorant and want to argue about something they can't control. Besides I've seen it twice and it's a beautifully made film....IT'S A FILM TO BE ENJOYED not scrutinized!

This movie does not brainwash you. The events in the movie actually happened. The Spartans and Athenians joining their forces against the Persians is what formed Greece as a nation.
The people were real. Xerxes was the son of King Darius, the same King Darius found in the Bible. (the one that threw Daniel in the lion's den) After that great battle, Xerxes ordered Leonidas' head cut off and mounted on a spear.

I am iranian and i have studied a lot about persian history and the persian empire and it is obvious for me that this movie is a big lie about what have really happened.in the movie Spartans are good men and the persians are bad men that you can stop them only by killing them.and we know and all history scholars know that it is not true. the first human rights law in the world was made by persians and is documented in the UN.and the persians was never like what they show in the movie . So what could be the purpose from making a movie that tells lies from beginning to end.and of course in this time and in this situation that iran and US are in it.and mention that the movie was made very faster than usual and i think just to become ready before the iranian new year and by an unknown director . so you yourself judge about the facts.

Clearly, you don't know much about Greece's ancien history. This movie is based on true events which took place before Christ, and how the Greeks with 300 men battled a much larger Persian army.
Spartans are Greeks and Sparta is a part of Greece to this day.
Just as your American army learns about Alexander the Great's battle formations, and there was a movie based on Alexander (who's also a Greek), so too is he history of this battle depicted in this movie.

No. I don't see that at all. I mean, I can understand how wackos would come to that conclusion, but let me just offer this. It's a SPOILER, so I hope I don't ruin it for you. When the son dies from being beheaded by a Persian, the dad is upset and cries about wishing he'd told his son he loved him. So, let's say I died two months ago, and my dad went to see 300 tomorrow. If he was feeling guilty about not telling me he loved me enough, that scene would strike a definite nerve, and probably make him bawl. (I have a great family by the way...) My point is, that just because we happen to be at war, it's what people are picking up on. That's a theme that stands out to them. If we weren't in war, nobody would think that. It's just that it's on their minds and parallels are drawn. I seriously, seriously doubt one has anything to do with eachother. As a matter of fact, I would say they don't.

Whatever reviewers put that have that heads way to far up there asses. First off the movie was based off a book which is not based around the iraq war. And second the book was based off of actual invent in history. So reviews need to learn the facts before the review something.

Hahahahahaha - that's pretty funny, actually. Brainwashing, please. It is loosely based upon the Battle of Thermopylae in 480bc, something that actually happened. The cool thing about it was it was a waste of men and time. The Persian army had already found another route through the mountains, so the "300"'s battle was pretty much useless. How's that for propaganda.
