I know that the government still has a country to run and ignoring everything else because we're at war is not an option. These are real issues that need to be dealt with and not doing so is already having negative economic effects.

Being a represenative in congress is not nor ever was easy, cutting them slack poisons our government leading to curruption and stagnation. We as the people need to push through the things we really want done or it won't happen. Cutting them slack is the worst idea I've ever heard, and besides, you know the old sayying give them an inch and they take a mile. The american people need to make clear what it is they care enough about to vote on, and last time I checked voter turnout wasn't 100% so if they can get liberals and lefties and green dems passionate enough to vote without turning off the moderates they'll have a MUCH better shot at the presidency.

Because there is a Presidential Election coming up and it will center around the War in Iraq and the War on Terror, not global warming, much to the dismay of the far left.
Democrats are in a strong position to win the White house no matter who they nominate because of President Bush's shortcomings and the Republican Party's fall from grace, so they do not want to irritate moderates and independents who make up the decisive swing-voters in a general election.
Do you really believe that global warming is more important than national security, ending the War in Iraq and winning the War on Terror? If the liberal leadership of the Democratic Party does and they make it the dominating issue, they will loose it 2008.

Don't hold your breath. Passing "green" legislation costs money. It hurts the manufacturing and industrial sectors of the economy because of the new regulations required. These areas are typically run by labor unions (a major Democratic support group). They won't risk angering the unions and losing votes (and money). You'll see lots of talk about how the Republicans resist environmental change to line the pockets of the rich, but very little actually accomplished in the way of meaningful legislation.
All those adjectives you just listed should never be used in the same thought with 'government'. Sensible, reasnonable, logical, rational, wise....do not apply to anything related to the government. Its all about power and getting re-elected. Yes, I'm a cynic, but I've seen it too many times to be otherwise.

Unfortunately the Dems majorities in both chambers are small, and they need to get any legislation they can pass by a troglodyte President with a veto.
Simply put it aint easy to come up with a meaningful bill that actually has a chance of becoming a law. Give 'em some slack.

Yeah. We'll wait for the peeps up at in Washington to come up with a law that actually fits all of those specifications.
And besides, these things take time, and money. Besides that, I'm sick of you people relying on the government to do everything. Take charge. Buy efficient light bulbs, buy hybrid cars (I'll pass, thx), get solar panels and energy efficient household 'accessories'. Readers' Digest just did an article on new Green Technologies for a more efficient home.

I think everyone wants to take care of our environment, and I think it is starting to catch on. I know that there are many more environmentally kind products introduced to the public every-year, I know that people are now aware that is better to fuel up their car when it is dusk. I think change in every aspect is slow, but when the government is involved it becomes a snails pace. When people become more educated about how to take of our planet they will.
And as for Global Warming, it is a theory, and not supported in fact. Did you know that the ice caps on mars are melting as well? Check out NASA's web-site. The sun goes through cycles (expands and contracts), the sun is the only thing that warms our planet, so it would make since if it expands and gets bigger the Earth's climate gets warmer. Not that I think C02 emissions are good either. We do need to find alternate fuel for many reasons, I think it will take somebody in the private sector to figure that out, not our government.

Australia is phasing out incandescent bulbs in the entire country. This alone will cut tons of emissions per year. You'd think the USA would take the lead on something other than war these days.
Brazil is 100% oil free for their vehicle emissions.
Iraq is the biggest distraction I've ever witnessed.

Sen. Lindsey Graham has threatened to block global warming legislation, even though he recognizes it is absolutely necessary. 60 votes are needed in the Senate.

You have to wait for a moderate Republican. The last President who made a big leap for the environment was Nixon.
