I have 2 facts from a book.
1) if you drag a fish backwards by it's tail through the water it will drown!
2) If you have a diseased fish, the quickest way to put it down, is to drop a brick on it.
Honest I read this in a fish keepers hand guide once.
I only remember it coz it is so bad, must admit I did laugh about the brick.

If you buy a beta, (they make great pet fish, by the way) don't put it in a tank with other fish - it will eat them - they're not social. They do like to swim around though, so buy it a big enough bowl. I hate seeing those betas in tiny bowls. Also, only feed the beta two or three of those little dots (bloodworms - but they just look like dots) per day. If you listen carefully, you can hear the beta crunch their food - it's a cool noise. You can also wiggle your finger just above the water and the beta will get agitated and might actually jump out of the water at your finger - mine did and it's a little scary. Obviously you don't want to do that a lot though. Also, my beta used to play dead occasionally. I don't know what that was about, but he lived for 4 years, so I'm glad I didn't believe him along the way!! Oh, and when you're choosing a beta, don't choose the one that looks "nice" or "gentle". A healthy beta looks vigorous and somewhat aggressive. That's their nature. Good luck!

An axolotl. They are amazing fish we've had one for about 7 years and they can last up to 15 years. he's 30 cms long and black in colour. He lives in a 6 foot tank with about 9 gold fish. we feed him live food, we buy small fish. He also have dry pellets, which are bought at the local pet shop.

wow... you've got a lot of terrible answers here.

betta should be in filtered heated tank, the "dots" are pellets, bloodworms are a completely different thing. bettas CAN be kept with other fish, just not other bettas and not fish that look like them. also, not fish that are aggressive or your betta will be in danger, not the other fish.

bowls are NOT easier to take care of. they involve water changing at least once a week. a filtered tank is much easier.

Ok...if you have enough of dogs...and there are no suchthings ad dogfish...how about a catfish...LOL..

Well..basically... if you want a pet fish and you know nothing about how to take care of them...

DONT AND I REPEAT "DONT" get a lot of fishes (about more than 5 cm) and dont keep a lot of aquariums.

a fish living in a bowl is bit easy to manage....if u have 2 bowls....its easy to manage...if u have a lot of aquariums...just keep dogs....

if u want sum fun and dont mine losing your fishes.....the get fighting fishes.....just train them well... a small container would do...later...put to of those fighting fishes and make them fight...just like crickets fighting...lol!

Pufferfish have great personalities, but they eat everything they can. I once had one be patient enough to get cleaned by a cleaner shrimp...and then eat him!
