6to 14 means 1st std to 9th std. There after studies are not of general in nature but focused on some specialisation.
The standards of education vary and Parents may have their own preferences over their wards and their schools My servant maid sends her 4 year old child to a kinder garden attached to a convent. Parents too have a responsibility after9th std.
TamilNadu Government gives free cycles to every high school student. Books are free too, for certain category of students. child Malnutrition is taken care of by noon mean schemes.
women education is supported by scholarships. Poor and down trodden, scheduled caste and tribe students continue their studies freely and they are also awarded scholorship for collegiate and engineering studies, apart from quotas in admission.

Free basic education for poor is good. But it is foolish to think that it will make them intelligent. Only through eugenic policies we can increase intelligence among the poor as well as in the general population.

education here isn't really free. Parents still have to pay for lunches, school fees, graduation expenses, etc etc.
