Hi ,

No doubt Buffon is the best ever goalkeeper , still there are many good goalkeepers following Buffon in the Italian team .

I think the best Italian goalkeeper after Buffon is Marco Amelia who plays for Livorno .

I think Amelia is a great goalkeeper , he is 25 and very talented , but he will be never be no 1 choice for Italy untill the great buffon is there .

Amelia, considered one of the finest young keepers of Italy, is also a squad member for the Italy national football team.

Amelia scored a dramatic late goal for Livorno in the 2006-07 UEFA Cup group stage match against FK Partizan in Belgrade on Thursday 2 November 2006, having come up for a late free-kick with Livorno trailing 1-0, becoming the first Italian goalkeeper to have ever scored in a continental competition.

Although he signed a new 5 year contract at the beginning of the 2006-07 season, Amelia has been linked with a number of clubs in the English Premier League, namely Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool . AC Milan have also been mentioned by the press.

He has made three appearences for the Italian team .

In the 2006 , Fifa World Cup , he was the third choice after buffon and angelo perruzzi but since perruzzi's retirement , he is the no1 back up . Angelo Perruzzi was also a great goalkeeper .Angello still plays for Lazio .

Amongst other Italian goalies , Christian Abbatti , the experienced lad who plays for Torino is the third choice goalkeeper at present .

Thanks.

Christian Abbiati; made experience in Borgosesia and Monza, then straight to A.C. Milan; quickly reached the Azzurri, was supposed to be second to Buffon in Euro 2000, but both him and Buffon got injured...
He had some bad time, till 2005, when A.C. Milan "lended" Abbiati to Juventus, as a gentlemen agreement since Buffon wasn't able to play for month because of an accident during a friendly Milan-Juventus match.
In Juventus gave its best, somebody thought about him in Azzurri team for WC 2006, along with Buffon...
Now he play for Torino, the other team of Turin; alas Torino is not in its best year...

Then, Amelia, as said by other users. De Sanctis was also rumored for WC 2006, but didn't manage to.

As for non-Italian goalkeeper who play in Italy, Avramov (he's playing in Serie B) could became one of the top in Europe, in a near future.

Pokey: best hope, but it seems Alena wants a daughter :-D
