Who is Helvetia?
Helvetia is a women -depicted standing tall and strong on many Swiss coins and postage stamps. Like her sister Lady Liberty, Helvetia is more than an icon.
Helvetia is a symbol of great fortitude, triumph, and plentitude. She is the changing face of the women in our global community. She is - mother, daughter, sister and the working mother of today and tomorrow.
She is the voice of the future - your voice.

Stephani is right here. It means the same to the Swiss, as Liberty on our older coins means to us. Looks like the Helvetica started in the 1850's on coins, but was spelled a Little different (Helvetia) and around 1879 on some coins they changed the spelling to what it is now and the rest as time went by. This may have been due to the new Constitution of 1879, that modeled the Swiss Union after the USA.
