Here's my 3 steps solution (works every time!)
1/ Take all your clothes off and start running in the middle of the street singing "Thriller".
2/ Ask your girlfriend to scream your name through a high-speaker during climax as you tape the whole thing and post it on u-tube.
3/ Go on Oprah and claim to be an enlightened Guru - publish a best-seller and a personal aero-zen DVD, make millions, acquire the company and fire your tyrant boss (after buying him an ear-piece of course!)
ciao and good luck! The force of the universe is within you. Live your life to the fullest and just enjoy yourself :)

Face your demons. If you haven't already, take a speech class at the closest college. Many offer the class in the evenings. In high school I usually broke into a sweat when I had to get up in front of the rest of the class, but after my freshman speech class, or communications as it is now called, I was fine.
If that's not possible, join a local Toastmasters Club.
Be sure when you know that you're going to have to talk to someone as you describe that you are wearing comfortable clothes that you know look good on you, so that you don't have to worry if you picked the wrong thing to wear. Remember to breath and take your time. Smile and look around the room. Pick two or three people to talk to in the group, and don't be afraid to look them in the eye.
Above all, be well-prepared beforehand. Know your subject and you'll be fine.
If none of this works and it is really important that you are able to speak publicly, then see your doctor. A light tranquilizer will get you over the hump, but don't wait until the day of the speech to take the first dose. Try it out ahead of time to see what reaction it causes in you. If that still doesn't help, see a psychiatrist--you might have some issues of which you are unaware. Good luck!

I had this problem long back. The simple way would be to start communicating more, go to parties, business meetings, functions, professional dinners and the people you meet there and the exposure you get there will surely enhance your speaking skills, it will improve your body language and all that.
Another trait which will automatically follow is facing the crowd. You will be able to give speeches to a large audience if you get the exposure you need. Like they say, the only way to beat shyness is "not to be shy"!
Good luck.

I think you should watch how a confident person acts, it's all an act anyway confident people have insecurities too so you need to figure out how you yourself can put on this 'act'.
Good luck!
