I remeber them being popular a few years ago, and just have not noticed them lately... but I just saw a lady at the grocery store with what looked like "purple" eyes....do you think they were colored contacts? I was "this" close to asking her!

Colored contact are far from being out of vogue. The reason why you probably haven't noticed them is because they have gotten better at making them blend with real eye tones.
FYI Paris Hilton wears contacts to make her eyes blue and other stars wear them as well both off scene and on.

They probably were, the only other person I know who had purple eyes was Elizabeth Taylor.

yes people still wear them and they still look tacky because it never looks like the person's true eye color (at least not to me), especially on darker skinned people
