it does not take them away permanently. lemon juice is a natural type of bleach when use in conjunction to the sun or other light sources. not only will it bleach the freckles but in turn the other pigments of your face. and repeated treatments could cause irritation to your skin.
if you truly want to cover up these "beauty" marks then you can always buy a shade of cover up a bit darker than your normal facial color and that will help to camouflage them

lemon works like a bleach. But don't have it on skin when out in the sun, its bad for skin and can damage real bad.

i don't know the exact details....but i think it has something to do with interaction of the acidity of the lemons and sunlight
