It's never too late, and certainly not at 17.
Getting good doesn't neccessarily happen in a certain amount of time.
The most important thing you need to know to get good at guitar is you've got to learn to feel music. More than practicing guitar, you've got to learn rhythm, you've got to learn to hear music, to hear each individual instrument's part and how it contributes to the overall sound.
You can study with a teacher or study on your own but you need to know, at the very least, the diffence between major and minor keys (the difference in how they sound and in how to play them)
A great way to start learning is by playing the blues - relatively simple and a great way to learn rhythm and a few chords.
If you already know many of these things, you may find yourself good at guitar in a month. If not, the longer journey is even more rewarding. Good luck and have fun.
By the way, consider the bass. Bass is better.

No way! My friend is 33 and just started and has already learned a couple songs after a month. It's never too late to do anything, if you wanted to learn it bad enough you would make time to do it. Plus, everyone loves a good guitar player.
Have you ever heard of Guitar Hero? Best thing ever invented.

its never too late. I started at 17. and It all depends on the person on how long it takes to get good, some people pick it up naturally like my friend, but the average person like me has to work at it. Its all about practice makes perfect, so practice often. :)
If you want to speed up your ability to learn and play the guitar you should take guitar lessons and have a seasoned guitar instructor/player guide you through the way to make sure you get the basic intermediate fundamentals of playing the guitar :) Good Luck!

How long it takes to learn guitar depends on how good you want to get and how much practice you put in. How good you can get with 1-2 hours a day for a few months depends on what methods you use to practice. There are effective practice methods that will help you make the best use of your time. This course is one of the best. https://bitly.im/aMT3d It's not just about how much you play but how effectively you play that will determine how good you will get.

Absolutely not! The guitar isn't an age thing, it's just as fun and amazing if you're 4, or if you're 104. (Okay, maybe a little less if you're 104, but you get my point.) And, for me, I've been playing 2 1/2 years now and I can already play Yngwie Malmsteen tunes with hardly any effort...not a very long time, considering I'm not rigorous at practicing :P

That all depends on how much you practice. You will get good a lot faster if you don't watch tv and play video games. If you really want to get good fast take lessons. No your not to old I started playing when I was 20 and I am about to be 21. It is easier now to as compared to when I was 15 because I can focus more.

It's never to late to learn a new skill. Becoming good depends on the amount of time you put into it.
Practice, practice, practice!

Anything worth learning is hard to learn and always something to be proud of, so take your time, it's the only way to have quality in your sound.
