In this case, you have to perform operations on both sides again.

You could do this in any order, but I'd suggest the first thing to do is to add 11 to both sides:

8x - 11 + 11 = 2x + 1 + 11
8x = 2x + 12

Notice how the 11 on the left side disappeared? You want to try and get everything that has an 'x' in it on one side (in this case, the left side). So the next step would be to subtract 2x from both sides.

8x - 2x = 2x + 12 - 2x
6x = 12

So you're almost done, now you have to divide both sides by the 6 so you can get x all alone on the left.

6x/6 = 12/6
x = 2.
