If you are connecting more then one computer to the modem make sure you network the computers together. That was my husbands computers problem and he has a laptop. You also might have to re-network it and all other computers every time you change the modem or computers that are hooked up to the modem. My husbands laptop is like this and I find it annoying.

It may be the router. I bought a linksys router at the same time as a friend. Mine worked fine, he ended up having to take his back for a new one. Some basic troubleshooting may help, though. Are you sure your laptop has a wireless card in it? And I didn't like the directions that came with the linksys. You need to run a wire from your pc's ethernet port to the linksys' port 1, and then another one from the modem to the linksys. If that all looks fine, maybe restarting your pc, or pushing the reset button on the back of the router. My internet provider's tech support helped me when mine started having trouble one day, maybe yours would be able to help.

First you need to do the following depending on the router version you have.

First log in to your routers admin panel through a browsers

IP# 192.168.1.1

then open up another browser and get the firmware upgrade for that router your using and then download it to your desktop

then after that click on administration in your router admin panel then click on firmware then upload the update.

then click on the wireless tab and then basic wireless settings and create a new name for your wifi connection.

then go to wireless channel and set it to 11 then save

next go to set up and then mac clone address then click on cloack pc mac then save.

now after all that turn off your computer and turn the power off to the router and then the modem. Then wait 2-3 minutes then plug in your modem first, then your router then turn your pc on.

This should get your connection, I have done this several times before and works every time.

if that doesn't work, on your router their should be a easy set up button press that and it should set up with no problems.

If still having problems get a hold of tech support and they will guide you through
