have laptop with no picture, previous answer was to connect to external monitor/ have desktop and another laptop/don't know how to do it. can anyone help?

You can only connect a laptop to an external monitor if the laptop has the VGA port on it. Take a look at the cable on an external monitor. Now look on your laptop and see if there is a port on it that will allow you to connect that cable to it.

After you have plugged in the external monitor you will have to enable the vga port on the laptop, which is usually done by pressing the function key and one of the f keys, usually f5 or f7. There should be a picture of two monitors on the key tht does it

You need a VGA cable. Plug one end into your laptop, and the other end of the cable into the monitor. To switch the combinations of display, keep the FN key down, and press F5. Keep doing that until you get the right combination. It's the same as connecting your laptop to your TV, using an S-Video cable.
