it seems to me that sexuality has become a trend over the years. considering that you dont have to be flamboyant and so feminine if your a gay male. i have met gay males that i couldnt tell where gay at first glance. all that drag queen stuff is a trend amongst gays. so being a trend is it possible that homosexuality can be learned from who you hang with, who you idolize and even influenced. Just like beign a punk rocker, emo, etc etc.?? but really think about it. i dont want a " homesexuality is in a gene" answer. because it doesnt explain why they wanna be so flamboyant and feminine even more then real women.

Because almost all human characteristics fall on a continuum. The most obvious are physical characteristics. Why are some men very tall and some men very short?
But lots of people will reject the notion that you can compare sexuality with something like height. So, consider masculinity. There are very masculine "macho" men; there are the "metrosexuals" that were mentioned in another answer. Then there are all the men who are somewhere in between. Is it just trendiness? Perhaps, but even if the trend is toward men being more feminine (the metrosexual phenomenon) there are still plenty of ultra-macho men around. Is it just a choice? I don't think so. These types of characteristics tend to be fairly stable.

So with gay men, the same applies. Some are quite masculine (the ones you wouldn't even know) and some are quite flamboyant. I don't know why some gay men enjoy being flamboyant and "feminine." Just like I don't know why some heterosexual men want to be like Rambo. It is in the nature of who they are as human beings - a complicated set of circumstances lead to the establishment of each of our identities.

And you don't "learn" homosexuality from who you hang around with. Think about it. How many homosexual "idols" are out there versus how many heterosexual? Especially in the past when being gay was much less tolerated - even more vilified than it is today. That's why so many gay men were closeted about their sexuality. I think what you are observing nowadays is the somewhat more tolerant attitudes toward gay men. As a result more gay men are in the public eye and more gay men feel comfortable being who they are instead of trying to hide their sexuality. That is something that is a trend, to be sure.

So.. good question.

You said, " i don't want a 'homosexuality is in a gene' answer. because it doesn't explain why they wanna be so flamboyant and feminine even more then real women."

So then to answer that. Homosexuality, is in all aspects, a choice. Its their choice to like the same sex, so in retrospect, it's also their choice to be flamboyant or feminine. It's as simple as what they choose to eat that morning.. its just their choice, and their way of expressing themselves. Its just up to the rest of us to accept them for who they are, and look past these choices to get to the real person. :) I hope this helps somewhat.

"Trendy Homosexuals" are called"Metrosexuals" they arent really gay but they look it. Not all Emo's are gay. Not all Drag queens are gay (some just do it for the glam). Not all Punk rockers are gay either. I have Gay, lesbian and transgender friends, but I'm straight, lol
