You will need a wifi card. Either 802.11b or 802.11g, to access the hotspots in europe, just as you need one to access the hotspots here in the states.
Is your card used to connect wirelessly to the Verizon wireless network, or can it connect to other wireless spots also.
If it is a wifi card it will also work in europe.

Well make sure that your laptop is dual voltage we have 110/60cycles and Europe has 220/50cycles. If your laptop is not don't bother taking it. YOU WILL FRY IT IF IT IS NOT DUAL VOLTAGE. If it does work I don't see why the wireless card would not work. I lived in Europe for 3 years and use my computer over there but I did not have wireless back then. But all the cards are manufactured in the same place so I don't see why it would not work.

You should call Verizon personally and ask if it possible to take over internationally.
Most likely, you may have to pay extra if you were to do so.
You should purchase a miscellaneous wireless card (not from any company like Verizon) and hopefully there should be coffee shops at Europe that have free wi-fi.

if you go into a internet cafe or something of that sorts, you should get it wirelessly if you have a built in wireless modem. if you use wireless internet already, then your fine.
