I think that we would save America l Lot of Money and we could stop large companies and special intrest groups from buying off Senators to get their ways, if Bill Gates designed a program for the internet so that Americans could vote for the issues on their own. Each taxpayer would get an id number and they could go on line each day and read about the issues and then vote. If we did this we would not have to pay all of the politicians these big wages, and retirement plans, and health plans. This would make sure that no lobbist, special intrest group, and large company could buy off the officals to get their way. To do that they would have to buy off over half of America. We could have just the extreamly important positions like President, Vice President, and all of the staff for them. But we could get rid of all the State Representatives, Congressmen, and Senators. This would help cut our budget by millions of dollars and we would make sure that America was truely a democracy.

what we should do is make the politicians create a web page for every bit of legislation they are either voting on or writing. They should be required to take into consideration the results of the votes on said legislators web site by the voters in his or her district. Maybe 50% of his/her decision should come from the results of those votes on his web site

You have to have congressmen wondering about their district listening to voters one on one and you have to have them in Washington to "lobby" for whatever it is your community wants from the Law and the Feds.

Oh yes, no:
-we'd have to deal with hacker manipulating the results
-what about people without computers?
-we elect people to vote because they have a semi-good idea about what's going on...
-most people won't take into consideration others, I wouldn't want a teacher deciding how my business is being taxed...
I'm sure there's more but it's late and I'm tired

Do you really want even the vast majority of people on this site directly making high level government decisions?

brilliant, and while we're at it, we can burn the constitution, the declaration of independence, and the smithsonian institute. we could have just 1 ruler, and he could just tell us what to do, wear, think, and maybe even take over the world!!...... oops sorry i forgot we have that now
