Depo-Provera itself doesn't cause you to gain any weight. The hormones have an effect on your brain that makes you have more cravings and makes you think you're hungry when you're really not. The reason a lot of people gain weight on it is because they don't pay attention to their eating habits and don't realize they're eating more than they used to.

If you go off depo-provera but don't change the things/amount you're eating now, it's not going to make any difference.

It is a struggle! I gained 35 lbs in 3 months when I went on depo. It took me almost a year to lose it. I watched everything I put into my mouth and worked out at the gym almost everyday! However, once I lost the weight I never gained it back, even though I am not able to get to a gym anymore as I have an eight month old son. Good luck!

The above answer is not true. I gained all of the weight (35lbs) in 3 months! This is almost impossible given that I am very athletic and have always had high metabolism. Once I gained the first 5 lbs, I started working out all of the time and watching what I ate. I still gained another 30 lbs. My OB-GYN couldn't believe it. I only got the first shot because of this.

Yep you'll lose the weight..But people is different..:( I got off the depo because I gained about 25+lbs in a 8months.. U kno it makes you eat alot... I was 160 when i was on it and seen i was 190.. I lost the weight quickly because I ate like I was b4 i even got on the shot (eating real slow, and was more active)and got back to 165...But when your on the shot you have to eat healthy.. You can still lose weight while your on it.. Just eat 6 small meals a day and drink alot of water.. And i don't think gaining 30lbs in 2 years aint bad @ all.. Talk to you ob/gyn they'll tell you how u been.. And also theres this new birthcontrol i heard of a while back it starts with an "R" and they implant 6 like matchsticks in your arm(while ur awake) and they last for like 5years and you have the option to take them out if you want.. The incision is very SMALL and not noticeable.. Ask your doc about it..Hope it helps or go to www.webmd.com

Losing weight isn't easy. Weather if it was from medication or not. My struggle seemed to be keeping it off more then just losing it. I wasn't on it as long as you though. Got off to have a baby. Two miscarriages later had a baby boy. Still think Depo had something to do with it. If you ever want a baby don't get pregnant for a while double what they recommend use other forms of birth control and let that stuff get out of your system.

I was on it for 2 years as well, and while I only gained 5-10 pounds overall (not sure if all of it was because of the shot), my weight dropped by 15 pounds once I stopped, without me even trying. Most of it depends on your body, I think.

If you could lose weight fast before the shot i think it should come off. If you had weight issues before it might take a little longer.. Drink tons of water and eat plenty of steamed veggies and salads.
