AHA! It took me a little while to figure this out, but I think the song you're after is "Groovin'", by The Young Rascals. The line is "Groovin, on a Sunday afternoon/feelin', couldn't get away too soon". Great song.
Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You" did have birds singing (credited on the album to God, strangely enough), but your description of the song didn't fit "Lovin' You".
