Listen the only way this is going to stop is by not doing anything. She does this to get you upset. Go on like you aren't and it will stop. It will suck because you are going to want to fight your husband, but after a few times she will see it doesn't work, and maybe your husband will see through her games too.

as ur husband rightly said, he is their only son. it is natural for parents especially mothers to feel possessive of their sons. they have a kind of insecurity in their minds. they fear that their sons will drift away from them after they get married. and the only way for them to avert this insecuirty is by showing the DILS that the mother is still in control of the house and son's life. she is elder to u. at her age, u cant change her, but u can change urselves and make ur life happier. tell ur husband that yuo would always like to have a good relation with ur MIL,only that he needs to give u the privileges due to u as a wife. u can also talk to ur MIL. Tell her how u look towards a meaningful relation with her and by creating problems she is actually ruining her own dear son's life. whatever u do, act as if ur MIL still has her own voice in the house. act as if u r not hurt and aslo u accept her importance in ur husbands life. u can retaliate with silence. act as if u ignore her remarks and nasty actions. at the same time, be firm abt ur marital life. when u feel u should act strong, never hesitate to do so. she might be just craving for attention. stop giving her that. act as if u coudlnt care less. all the best to u.

Your are frustrated, and depressed to a height from what you have written but, in the bargain did you realise one thing, you are becoming what she wants you to become, She is a very possessive mother full of insecurity, understand one thing, from childhood she has been doing everything for him and he has been reciprocating to her in the same way, it might take time for him to switch over it can happen very slowly once you prove to tolerate his parents tantrums and become a mother of his child and not bother about their tantrums to him. Think little matured and handle them little tactfully then you will know how to survive think only one thing you are put into a swimming pool by nature or say time learn to swim and you will start enjoying it in other words take this as a challenge and then you will find life easy, running away anybody can do, quiet easy but surviving this situation is important then you will value life and relation in a better way.
