I don't know much about internet advertising, but if you want to advertise in your local community, I have the advertising medium for you!

Word of mouth is the very cheapest. It requires finding a way to get the word of mouth started though. Like if you're a web designer you have to let all your friends and family know that you're a web designer and show them your work, and if they're impressed and you tell them to spread the word that you're doing sites, they will, and then the customers will tell other people, and the friends of friends will tell other people, and if you bring it up in daily conversations you might find other people. That's all free. The next thing you can do is radio ads. Find a station most people in your customer audience listen to. Targeting your audience, is the most important thing, because if you spread yourself thin among everyone you will spread yourself to the point of ineffectiveness. Banner ads, newspaper ads, magazine and newsletter ads, find ways of trading services/products for ads.

Cheapest way to advertise is to talk to people. I believe that people don't buy the product but they buy because of the personality of the person.

Just do a search on yahoo for...classified ads...this will pull up about 132 million sites.
Or...free classified ads...will pull up over 40 million.
