You may be thinking of "The Confession" by Beverly Lewis. It's about Katie Lapp, a red-haired Amish girl. She finds out she was adopted (her birth mother was not Amish). She does end up leaving the Amish and getting shunned.....
Beverly Lewis wrote quite a few novels about the Amish, for whom she has great sympathy.
