First I want to start with a disclaimer I am not a model or in the business … but I did and do know a few successful models and agents.

The first thing they got was a regular job … I know it sucks but according to them it’s incredibly expensive to start. Also there are strict guidelines on how you should look if you’re over a size 4 you may want to forget about it. Most designers make dresses for sizes 0-4 and for heights of 5’9 plus. So ill skip that presuming that you meet those dimensions.

You first need a portfolio a set of pictures taken by a good professional photographer … expect to spend a day taking the photographs. If you do your own make up and hair … you’re looking at 1,500 – 3,000. Also you may want to also get a 100 or so head shots with your stats and your contact information.

For a basic portfolio you will want shots of 5- 8 outfits. Designer clothes fitted to you is a must if you can’t afford couture then buy designer clothes tailored to you. You will want a few casual outfits some dress and some in between. Also you will want one in a swim suit … many jobs require a perfect body and if you don’t show that you’re their idea of perfection they will move on.

Now take your portfolio to an agency … it might take you going to quite a few agency’s and see where it goes from there. A word of warning it takes months sometimes to get a gig and beware there are a lot of illegitimate gigs … stay clear of those.

I'd suggest that you apply to be on America's Next Top Model. If that doesn't work out, you should start working for small agencies (the local clothes store or something) so you can build a portfolio. Or..you could always just pack up and move to Paris :-D . Good luck!

Go to Hollywood and look for men who offer to make you a star.
