I will be moving to the Cleveland area in the next 6 months and I have no idea where would be a good place to live. I will be working in Huron, but I don't mind commuting from western Cleveland area as long as is no more than a 45 minute drive or so. I don't know anyone there and will be moving by myself, so I need a place that has enough "life" so I can meet new people. I am definitely not a small town girl, I like cities or big towns. I am in my 30's, which might be something to keep in mind, and no children - just the sweetest dog in the world.
Thanks*

Western Suburbs such as Rocky River, Lakewood, and Bay Village are a stone's throw from Cleveland. Good school systems and more of a suburban feel make these highly desirable areas to call home.

Lake Erie, always in the distance, gives you the feel of an open area in a small town. Booming areas such as Strongsville, Middleburg Hts, and Avon Lake, offer new construction and upper scale living.

One of the most popular suburbs of the last 10 years is Westlake. The new addition of Crocker Park, (An outdoor strip of fine clothing stores, restaurants, Movie theaters, and condo living.) has added to Westlake's already dominant presence.

Million dollar homes are just moments away from major highways and fine shopping.

Cleveland to Huron is about 45 mins depending on how you drive could take an hour... almost 60 miles one way its a pain in the ***. Highway Patrol all over in summer plus major Cedar Point traffic.
Try Elyria its not great but can be cheap has lots of shopping a nice little town square but the largeness of a city.
Since you have no kids you need not worry about schools. Elyria would cut your drive time in half. Yet youd still be close enough to Cleveland to hang out there.

If you want more culture, diversity and better nightlife options move to Lakewood. Easy access to I-90 both east towards Cleveland and west to Huron. You'll find that the area is very gentrified as opposed to some of the aformentioned areas. Although also a hop skip and jump from Cleveland I wouldn't recommend a place like North Olmsted, as it easy pretty much a strip mall hell with terrible traffic and garbage chain restaurants. Westlake is okay but nothing special. To me its a no brainer. Go to Lakewood or even to Cleveland itself. If you are willing to drive 45 plus minutes to work, whats 3 miles more to pay a cheaper rent or mortgage and be smack in the middle of a great city. I am a native Clevelander who now lives in Chicago and I have been all over the place, and IMO Cleveland is quite possibly the best mid-sized city in the Unitede States. Yes, I am partial, but there is so much to do and so much to explore if you are new to town. Anyone from the Cleveland area who has lived there for a long period of time will know all the hot spots but its fun finding them on your own. Best kept secret? Check out the MetroParks which is one of the best urban park networks in the country. Lake Erie is a truly under appreciated resource right at your front door if you live on the westside in a community like Lakewood. Either way...your going to love that town.

You want to live in Lakewood. It's a western suburb. There are a lot of people in their 20's and 30's living there. You're close to the Lake, entertainment, the Metro parks, and also right off of I-90, which is a straight shot to work (Huron). Have fun & good luck!

The other suggestions are good too, and in the same vacinity (Westlake, N.R., Rocky River) but there will be a few more families and less singles. Now that I think of it, do try Westlake because it really has come a long way in the last few years and may have newer homes/apartments and shops. It is also right off of I-90.

Where are you moving from?

a minimum of we are actually not DETROIT! ..... we are actually not DETROIT! seek for the Cleveland Tourism video on youtube. humorous ****. i've got lived in Cleveland my finished existence, quite plenty a shithole, bus drivers going all Muhammad Ali on woman passengers, (youtube) loss of balls contained in the Indians front place of work, douchebaggery to the max cursed the Cavs, and God is conscious what the piss is going on with the Browns...anyhow, i'd take Cleveland over Detroit...you have in simple terms gotta save your self out of worry and stay faraway from the undesirable aspects (on a scale of a million-10, the "undesirable aspects" listed right here are some 40 two). we've fantastic hospitals (Cleveland health facility, college medical institution). The suburbs are truly beneficial although, for the main section. Oh, and the chilly sucks, and so does the warmth...f**ok the warmth...

I also strongly recommend Lakewood. It is where a lot of single "city people" choose to live in Cleveland. Lakewood is actually the most dense city between New York and Chicago. It has beautiful tree lined residential streets, parks, and commercial avenues with city services, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. Lakewood is also known for its fantastic public library, beautiful churches, and the Beck Center - a regional performing arts center. There are a lot of rental properties to choose from, and most of the properities are older (somewhat historic), but kept up very nicely. Lakewood is very walkable, served well by public transit, easy to get around, highly convenient access to I-90. Not sure where you are coming from, but people say it resembles Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. You will find apartment listings online, but the major rent search engine type websites don't usually yield good results for Cleveland like other cities. I recommend using Craigslist, or driving around Lakewood for "For Rent" signs.

Rocky River is similar to Lakewood, but it is a little more suburban and more affluent. Rocky River does have a really nice commercial district with unique shopping, nice salons, galleries, an upscale grocery store, etc. It has a lot of character and quite a bit of rental properties. There wouldn't really be any difference in living in Lakewood or Rocky River in my opinion. Everyone living there seems to run errands or go out for fun back and forth between the two cities all the time. And from both cities you can easily access the Cleveland Metroparks - really nice park system with miles and miles of trails and other recreation. Check out their website sometime.

Westlake is a newer suburb in Cleveland with a lot of newer apartment complexes. Its probably not your scene, but Crocker Park is one of the better "faux" downtowns I've seen. The apartments and offices are directly above retail stores like J.Crew, Banana Republic, Coach, H&M, etc. What's nice about Crocker Park as opposed to other similar mainstreet centers is that it really isn't just a shopping center. The residential component is a huge part of it, and it is served by public transit. Westlake has a number of newer apartment complexes near Crocker Park located off Detroit road.

Stay away from Avon, Avon Lake, North Olmsted, etc. even though those would be closer to your job. Based on your preferences about living enviornment - I cant see you happy there. I wish I could recommend something closer to Huron, but based on what you want - I'd say you'd be looking at an hour commute. Vermillion and Oberlin near Huron are small towns, but they both have interesting downtowns with unique restaurants and such. Vermilion is a popular lakeside communitiy and Oberlin is a college town known especially for its music conservatory.

Good Luck!

North Olmstead, Westlake, Bay Village are good places. All have great shopping, restaurants and lots to do. Easy drive to any part of Cleveland. I used to live in N. Olmstead and it only took me 15 mins to get downtown during rush-hour.

The nicest western suburb is Westlake. Bay Village and Rocky River are OK. North Ridgeville is OK too.
