If the plates were changed, let the cops do it. Your possession of a bike with such illegal features makes you a criminal yourself. If it really is your bike and he really did change the plates, the police can proove it and make the appropriate charges.

Unfortunately, the punishment would probably be just a slap on the wrist if that. You could be evil and plant some pot on the bike before you tip off the police.

The REAL Question is this -- what is the VIN Number (Serial Number) of the Bike (Motorcycle?). IF there is a question .. and you have your LICENSE and REGISTRATION .. and the VIN Numbers match .. (and filed the report that the Motorcycle was stolen), then yes, it WILL show up as a stolen vehicle, get impounded, and he will be charged with at LEAST receiving stolen property (or stealing the property if he did it).

File a police report with the cops. (Free) Send him a letter stating that you want to resolve this without going to court. (.39) Then file a petition in civil district court. ($30.00) Have a civil sheriff bring a subpoena to his house. ($30.00) If he doesn't show up for court, they'll put out an attachment for his arrest. (Priceless)

Hopefully you have the title with it registered in your name. The numbers on the bike will match what is registered at the DMV. Take him to court and get your bike back. Make him pay for all of your court costs by showing a copy of the letter you sent him that states that you wanted to resolve this matter without the courts. This may or may not work: Consult an attorney about punitive damages (pain and suffering for worrying about your bike).
