amazes me how people think that joining in 2 years means that im not in yet. If they only knew that in ROTC you can sign a contract and you are officialy in, in your junior, not your freshman year.

ROTC is not now, or has it ever been a part of the military. It is a group which follows the fundamental principles regarding rank , chain of command , discipline, etc . It is a great way for someone to kind of "test drive" the military experience, & the military is supportive of their mission.

But , you are not "IN" until you raise your right hand & take the oath after signing a legally binding enlistment contract.

Also, ROTC members receive two stripes when the go active duty and complete basic training. At least they used to. Is this still the case?

It never has been. You federal service begins as of your commission date, which does't happen until graduation. My father graduated the Naval Academy in 72 and retired in 95, and he was in the Navy for 23 years. THat's according to his official documentation.
