someone actually objects to the marriage when they say "speak now or forever hold your peace"?

I was so nervous when I got married when the Priest ask that question, I spoke up.

Not yet. How I wish I would have a personal experience on this..

I always see this in Hollywood movies (so I think it's only fiction)..so I wonder why the priest bothers to say this statement.

No.. but during that moment of silence as they wait for the objection... my son (when 6 months old) passed gas very loudly during my brothers ceremony... he may have been attempting to object?

I've been to a couple weddings that I disagreed with.
I let the couple be in the spotlight.....not me.
